We will never forget this day.
April 16, 2013
On behalf of the Executive Board and all the members of the Boston Carmen’s Union, ATU Local 589, our collective hearts go out to the victims of yesterday’s senseless tragedy.
We would also like to express our gratitude to all of Boston’s first responders – Boston Police, Boston Fire Department, and Boston EMS – for their heroic and quick response to the wounded, which undoubtedly helped stem the loss of life.
The Executive Board thanks our members for their professionalism in the face of this tragedy As everyone knows, service was suspended at several stations close to where the explosions took place. Our members adjusted with the disruptions and helped people get where they needed to go. We thank them and the public during this difficult time.
Lastly, I would like to thank International President Larry Hanley for his call yesterday as well as for the outpouring of support that our local has received from ATU locals from around the country and Canada, including, but not limited to, Cleveland, OH; New Jersey; California; and Toronto, Canada. We appreciate all our brother’s and sister’s support during this difficult time.
In closing, as Boston’s Mayor Thomas Menino said, “Boston is strong and resilient city. We come together in times of need. We will get through this, and we will find those responsible.”
In solidarity,
John Lee, President
Boston Carmen’s Union, ATU Local 589
