Maura Healey Is Our New Governor https://local589.com/maura-healey-is-our-new-governor/ https://local589.com/maura-healey-is-our-new-governor/#respond Wed, 09 Nov 2022 05:00:00 +0000 https://local589.com/maura-healey-is-our-new-governor/
Congratulations to our friend and new Massachusetts Governor-elect Maura Healey.
We look forward to working with you and Lt. Governor-elect Driscoll to help working families during these challenging economic times, protect the rights of workers to organize/collectively bargain, and invest in a robust public transit system for the Commonwealth.
Thank you to all our members who voted and/or worked the polls today in support of Maura and our other endorsed candidates. As we anxiously wait to see results from their races, know that you made a difference today!

Today is Election Day! https://local589.com/today-is-election-day/ https://local589.com/today-is-election-day/#respond Tue, 08 Nov 2022 05:00:00 +0000 https://local589.com/today-is-election-day/ Today (11/8) is Election Day and polls are open from 7am to 8pm. Please support our pro-union, pro-transit endorsed candidates, especially Diana DiZoglio for state auditor. Her race is an important one for our union as the state auditor is charged with evaluating privatization proposals.

Unlike her Republican opponent, Diana supports the Taxpayer Protection Act (also known as the Pacheco Law) and opposes privatization. The choice could not be clearer for state auditor—and that is our friend Diana DiZoglio. She has our backs and today we need to show her we have hers. Let’s get it done!

11/11/22 – Latest Retirement Negotiations Update https://local589.com/11-11-22-latest-retirement-negotiations-update/ https://local589.com/11-11-22-latest-retirement-negotiations-update/#respond Fri, 11 Nov 2022 05:00:00 +0000 https://local589.com/11-11-22-latest-retirement-negotiations-update/ Brothers and Sisters,

As many are aware, Local 589 is currently involved in active and ongoing negotiations with MBTA management over the Pension plan. These discussions and meetings have taken place regularly and the process is continually progressing.

The memo of interpretation is an agreement that has already been reached by the parties and remains in effect moving forward. Those who are less than 5 years from retirement with 18 years of credible service or 60 years of age or older as of August 26, 2022, are still protected.

Local 589 is confident the parties will reach agreement through these negotiations to protect the pension benefits for all members.

In Solidarity,

Executive Board
Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589
