Volunteers Needed for Phone Banks!
June 9, 2015
Dear brothers and sisters,
As you know, our rights, our livelihoods, and our families are under attack with current efforts to privatize the MBTA. However, let us be clear, this is not only an attack on Local 589―it is an attack on the labor movement itself!
In response, Local 589’s executive board has organized phone banks every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this month. Those operating the phone banks will be calling fellow union members and patching them through to their state legislators so they can urge them to oppose any efforts to privatize the MBTA. Members of Local 589 as well as members from all other unions are encouraged to participate.
The following is the full schedule:
- Every Tuesday (June 9th, 16th, and 23rd) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at IBEW Local 103 on 256 Freeport Street in Dorchester, MA.
- Every Wednesday (June 10th, 17th, and 24th) from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at IBEW Local 103 on 256 Freeport Street in Dorchester, MA.
- Every Thursday (June 11th, 18th, and 25th) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at IBEW Local 103 on 256 Freeport Street in Dorchester, MA.
For any questions about the phone banks, contact Mark Flaherty of ATU Local 589 at 617-899-9627. For questions about the privatization legislation, contact the Massachusetts AFL-CIO’s legislative director, John Drinkwater, at 781-324-8230.
In solidarity,
Executive Board
Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589
