U.S. Sen. Markey Headlines Anti-Privatization Rally This Monday (8/14)
August 12, 2017
U.S. Sen. Edward Markey joins MBTA mechanics at an anti-privatization rally and press conference this Monday (8/14) to support public transit workers who worry Gov. Charlie Baker could privatize their jobs. The event starts at 11:45 a.m. at MBTA Lynn Maintenance Facility (985 Western Ave., Lynn, MA).
The event is organized by INVEST NOW, a coalition of public transit supporters, including riders, workers, community groups, nonprofits, businesses, municipalities and elected leaders hoping to drum up support for investment in the 120-year old public transit agency.
The organization said Monday’s rally comes “on the heels of the for-profit companies sneaking into the MBTA garages under the cloak of night between midnight and 3:00 A.M. earlier this week to survey the properties they will be bidding for control of.”
