Today, Local 589 President James Evers along with other members of the executive board attended today’s hearing on the transportation bond bill (H 4397).

In submitted testimony, Evers said the Boston Carmen’s Union wholeheartedly supports this bill to authorize bonds to help rehabilitate and expand mass transit.

However, he cautioned the committee to steer clear of any further efforts to privatize the T and, instead, to stick with Local 589 and other union workers who can do the work cheaper, quicker, and more effectively because they know the system intimately.
