T: Teen Passenger Spits On Trolley Driver

February 17, 2011

BOSTON — A Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority trolley operator was assaulted Wednesday night when she was spit on by a passenger.

The incident happened just after 6 p.m. Wednesday near Blanford Street on an inbound Green Line B Line trolley, the MBTA said.

The operator, whose name was not released, said someone pulled the emergency brake, and after she went to reset it, a Hispanic teen who had exited through one of the doors spit on her twice, the MBTA said.

As the operator exited the trolley to alert police about what had happened, the teen threatened to hit her, the MBTA said. The teen then fled on foot toward Kenmore Station, the MBTA said.

The teen is described as being about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black jacket and a black Red Sox hat.

The MBTA operator refused medical attention.
