An Orange Line train operator will receive a commendation for moving quickly to stop her train when a man toppled into the train pit Wednesday at North Station, MBTA officials said.
Patricia Corrado will be recognized by MBTA General Manager Richard Davey in a ceremony today at North Station, T officials said.
MBTA surveillance video released Wednesday evening showed the man walking at 3:21 p.m. ever closer to the yellow warning strip and then falling in. Bystanders helped him out of the pit as the lights of the oncoming train grew brighter.
T spokesman Joe Pesaturo says Corrado is being recognized because she spotted the commotion up ahead on the track and immediately began bringing her train to a stop.
The man made no contact with the third rail, officials said. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital to be checked out, T officials said Wednesday.
