Supreme Court sides with Janus―but, no court can take away our union!
June 27, 2018
Brothers and Sisters,
Today, on the last day of its session this year, the United States Supreme Court issued its decision in the Janus v. AFSCME case. As expected, The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Janus and against working people and Unions in a 5-4 decision. You can read the full decision, here.
Now, more than ever, we must continue to stand together – as the Boston Carmen’s Union and alongside our Union Brothers and Sisters around the country. We must let big business and political leaders know that we will not let their decision weaken us, that we continue to stand Union Strong and Union Proud. If everyone chooses to stay in the Union, we will send a loud and strong message to our state and federal officials. The decisions we all make as individuals will determine the future of, and the strength of, Unions going forward.
Here are two things you can do right now:
- Sign the Carmen’s Union Petition and Pledge to Stay Union Strong and Union Proud. Pledge to stay with the Carmen’s Union, pledge to protect one another, and pledge to preserve what it means to be Union Proud in this country. We hope you will encourage your fellow brothers and sisters to sign it as well. This is about all of us, and we are stronger when we stand together.
- Join union members across Massachusetts and all around the country in a pro-union social media campaign. Take a picture holding a “Union” sign and post it to social media. Take the picture alone, or with a group of coworkers, brothers and sisters. We’re invoking the style of the iconic film heroine Norma Rae. Include positive, pro-union messages such as “I’m sticking with my union” or “The Supreme Court can’t take away my union.” Click here for some additional graphics for you to use. Be creative, be positive, and use the hashtag #UnionStrong.
