Tim drives the Mattapan- Ashmont trolley, the extension of the Red Line that takes over where the subway ends. The trolleys are the only vehicles in the MBTA fleet not equipped to make recorded announcements, so Tim does the job as his 71-year-old trolley — still beautiful, still functioning — makes its way along the two-and-a-half-mile route. Perhaps 75 or 80 times on his shift, he discharges passengers at one of the terminals and says …
“Mattapan next. Please remember to take your belongings with you and have a great day! Thank you, as always, for riding the high-speed line. Last stop, Mattapan. Have a great day and I hope the rest of your weekend is great, too!”
And he means it. The words are spoken with a smile. Tim is one of the best ambassadors the T has.
