State House Rally This Monday (5/11)
May 5, 2015
Join Local 589’s executive board, members, and retirees―as well as other MBTA unions―for a rally this Monday (5/11) at 11:00 AM on the steps across the street from the Massachusetts State House (corner of Beacon and Park Street).
After the rally, we ask that you visit with your state senator and state representative and urge them to continue supporting the Taxpayer Protection Act as well as collective bargaining. If you are not sure who your state senator or state representative is, click on the following link to look them up: http://www.270towin.com/elected-officials/.
Then at 1:00 PM, the Joint Committee on Transportation will be holding a hearing in the the Gardner Auditorium on the Governor’s MBTA bill, HB 3347, An Act for a Reliable, Sustainable Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. Click on the following link to view the text of this bill: https://malegislature.gov/Bills/189/House/H3347.
Your presence in the State House―be it talking to your state senator and state representative or your attendance in the hearing―will send a strong message that we are committed to turning the oldest public transportation system in the nation into the best transportation system in the nation. Simply put, we are here to help, and we want to help!
In closing, we encourage all Local 589 retirees and members who are not working, as well as all other MBTA unions, to join us this Monday (5/11) at 11:00 AM on the steps across the street from the front of the Massachusetts State House (corner of Beacon and Park Street). Further instructions will be provided at the rally. For any questions, please call the union office at (617) 542-8212.
In solidarity,
Executive Board
Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589
