Spilka Addresses Mass. AFL-CIO Convention
October 11, 2013
State Senator Karen Spilka, Local 589’s endorsed candidate for U.S. Congress in the 5th District Special Democratic Primary, was a featured speaker at the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Convention.
Senator Spilka spoke to a packed hall in Plymouth highlighting her 93% Life time Labor Voting Record and making her case that she is the best candidate for workers in the October 15th Primary. Senator Spilka has been endorsed by 32 Unions, far more than any other candidate in this race.
Karen Spilka reminded the convention delegates that she voted against the Transportation Reform bill that stripped collective bargaining rights from public employees. Spilka has also filed legislation to study building a facility to rehab MBTA Busses and Trains here in Massachusetts. Such a facility would stop Local 589’s work from being outsourced and keeping the work in-house and creating more jobs here in Massachusetts.
Senator Spilka concluded her remarks saying that should she win the October 15th Democratic Primary she would urge all Massachusetts Unions to support her in the final election to insure a pro-worker candidate is elected to fill Ed Markey’s seat.
