Dear Sirs,
I am writing to you today to express my opposition to the current proposal for 776 Summer Street, the former Boston Edison Power Plant. The height and density of this project does not fit with the surrounding community, nor does mixed use residential fit in with the surrounding industrial port. This project will have adverse effects on the community around it.
As a member of Local 589, Boston Carmen’s Union, I am also concerned with this development’s proposal regarding bus service. The developer proposes to offer a private bus service to supplement the MBTA Bus No. 7 route in South Boston, available to anyone with a Charlie Card or Charlie Ticket. I am concerned that this runs the risk of opening the door to additional privatization of our public transit system, which could ultimately effect the jobs of our hardworking union members and MBTA employees.
Thank you,
