The Boston Carmen’s Union Local 589, issued the following fact check and clarification in response to the recent arraignment of a Paul Revere Transportation bus driver for kidnapping and assault in Winthrop.

“We at the Boston Carmen’s Union condemn this recent act of violence that took place on the 713 bus line on Saturday night. An attack like this violates the public trust and should never have happened. This recent incident is not emblematic of the rigorous standards that our union MBTA drivers uphold to protect their communities.

As news spreads about this crime, it is important to clarify that the individual’s employer has been misidentifed in some media reports. The arrested individual was employed by Paul Revere Transportation LLC, an MBTA contractor, not a Boston Carmen’s Local 589 member or an employee of the MBTA. We look forward to justice being served and will continue to assure our riders that MBTA drivers and operators are committed to maintaining high standards for a safe and welcoming environment.”
