Rally to Support Transportation Funding
September 19, 2011
What: Rally to Support Transportation Funding
WHEN: Tuesday, September 20, 2011
WHERE: Park Street Commons (Corner of Tremont and Summer St), Boston, MA
TIME: 12 Noon
The purpose of this rally is for you to show your support for federal transportation funding.
Currently, there is a proposal in the U.S. House of Representatives to drastically cut highway and public transportation funding, putting 14,000 jobs, as well as many improvement and maintenance projects at risk across the state. Locally, the MBTA has reported a $160 million dollar deficit and has raised the possibility of fare hikes and service cuts for the T, putting the burden on transit riders and workers that depend on public transportation.
Riders, workers and supporters from Boston, as well as Bay State cities Worcester, New Bedford, and Springfield will participate in this national rally day to send a message to Congress and the State Legislature that any level of future funding cuts is unacceptable and will have a drastic impact on the economy and the millions of Americans and residents of Massachusetts who rely on public transit every day.
