Pushing for Stiffer Penalties for Driver Assaults

May 17, 2023

Today, several of our members courageously testified about the physical and verbal assaults they endured while simply doing their jobs. Their testimony was heard by members of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary in support of H.1669, which would impose stricter punishments for those convicted of assaulting public transit workers.

If you were unable to attend today’s hearing, but were physically or verbally assaulted while on duty, the committee is still accepting testimony. Please write up your story and e-mail it to Local 589 Vice President Billy Berardino at wberardino@carmensunion.org.

If you have not reached out to your state representative and senator about supporting this critical legislation, please do so at your earliest convenience. If you are unsure who your legislators are or how to contact them, click here to look them up.

In solidarity,

Executive Board
Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589
