Pride Month and the Power of Solidarity

June 16, 2026

As we celebrate Pride Month, we are reminded of an enduring lesson from the labor movement: working people are strongest when we stand together.

Throughout history, there have been those who seek to divide workers by focusing on our differences. Whether based on race, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, or politics, division weakens solidarity and makes it harder to achieve the progress that benefits all working families.

Pride Month is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of LGBTQ+ workers and to reaffirm a principle that has guided unions for generations: our strength comes from unity.

At Local 589, we know that every member deserves dignity, respect, and a fair opportunity to succeed. When we focus on what unites us rather than what divides us, we build a stronger union and a stronger future for all.
