People’s Climate March

Dear Members,
On September 21st in New York, the People’s Climate March will be the biggest mass mobilization the climate movement has ever seen.
As world leaders gather for a landmark climate summit at the UN Headquarters, a movement of movements is mobilizing to reflect the seriousness, urgency, and people-power needed to address the climate crisis.
This is a new climate movement – where concerns of social justice, economic inequality, good jobs, healthy communities, and a sustainable environment come together. This is our chance to change everything — and to do that, we need everyone.
To build support for the event, the People’s Climate March organizers will visit four East Coast cities, including Boston, to help local activists and groups get ready for the fight ahead.
International ATU President Larry Hanley is asking all 589 members and retirees to attend this Friday’s (8/22) “Boston Tour Stop” at 7pm at the Boston Opera House.
You will hear inspiring movement leaders, community organizers, and activists talk about the above issues, and get connected to local organizing around the Peoples Climate March. The following are among the confirmed speakers:
- Bill McKibben – Author, educator, environmentalist, co-founder of 350.org
- Vanessa Rule – Co-Director of Mothers Out Front and co-founder of Better Future Project
- John Kassel – President, Conservation Law Foundation
- Sandra Steingraber -Biologist, author, and science advisor for Americans Against Fracking
- Varshini Prakash – UMass Amherst student; Board Member at Responsible Endowments Coalition and Divestment Student Network
- Joe Uehlein – Founder, Director of Labor Network for Sustainability
- Revered Fred Small – Senior Minister, First Parish Unitarian Universalist; Co-chair, Religious Witness for the Earth
- Bruce Hamilton – Vice President, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1700
