An 18-year-old Roxbury man is facing charges he menaced an MBTA bus driver on April 18, while MBTA Transit Police continue to search for a second man who spat in the driver’s face during the same incident.

Last week, Transit Police released a video of the incident that was captured by the surveillance camera on board the Route 28 bus. The video showed two men boarding the bus at the intersection of Warren and Hazelwood streets.

One man paid his fare, but the second man argued with the driver about paying, and was ordered off the bus. The two men got off together, and just before he left the vehicle, the second man spat into the driver’s face.

Today, Transit Police identified Maurice Jones of Roxbury, as the man who paid the fare. He is not the man who allegedly spit on the driver, but he allegedly put his hand on his waist during the incident, suggesting that he had a gun and was prepared to use it on the driver.

Jones is charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon and is to be arraigned later today in Roxbury Municipal Court.

The search for the second man continues, according to MBTA spokesman Joseph Pesaturo.
