Nominations Now OpenBoard Members and Barn Captains

Section 30: “A member to be nominated for any office in this Local Union must be present “at the Union Office” unless such member be confined through illness to her or his home or hospital or out of town on legitimate business. No member shall be a candidate for more than one office at any election.”

Section 32: “Nominations of Officers and Barn Captains shall take place at a special meeting of the Executive Board of this Local Union to be held in the Union Office at 295 Devonshire St., Boston, MA on the first Monday in November, (November 4, 2013). Nominations shall be in order from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM.” The primary election shall be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 and the final election will be held on the first Monday in December, (December 2, 2013). Said election shall be held at some centrally located place designated by the Local Union or Executive Board. (Boston Teachers Union Hall 180 Mount Vernon St., Dorchester)

Section 38. A member to be eligible as an officer or other elective position of this Local Union, must have been an active member (currently working in a Local 589 classification and not currently on a spare list as listed in Section 18 of the Local 589 By-Laws) in continuous good standing for the two years next preceding the day of election; he/she must also have attended at least six meetings during each of these years unless excused by the President/Business Agent on account of absence or injury the duration of which would have prevented him/her from attending the required number of meetings or because his/her work has taken him/her out of town on the required number of meeting days. If a member who is in arrears pays his/her arrearage within sixty (60) days of his/her date of arrears, he/she shall be considered in good standing and eligible to be an officer, delegate, inspector or holder of another elective position. Members in the service of the Local Union or the International Union are deemed to be in service and are eligible to office provided they have complied with the provisions of the General Constitution and the Local By-Laws of the Local Union.

Election to be held at the Boston Teachers Union Hall, 180 Mt. Vernon St. Dorchester (near the JFK MBTA Station on the Red Line). Primary Election on Monday, November 18, 2013 and Final Election on Monday, December 2, 2013. Voting hours are 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Identification will be required to vote and any outstanding dues will be collected.
