Monday (2/26) is the Working People’s Day of Action
February 21, 2018
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
All Local 589 members (who are not working) and retirees are encouraged to join the executive board, Mass. AFL-CIO, elected leaders, and brothers and sisters from other unions on Monday, Feb. 26 at 12-noon at the Boston Firehouse (125 Purchase St, Boston, MA) for a national day of action as we speak out for good, union jobs.
The Working People’s Day of Action coincides with U.S. Supreme Court hearings on the Janus vs. AFSCME case. This case is part of a well-funded campaign by wealthy special interests, backed by the Trump Administration, to rig the economy even more in their favor. If the Supreme Court sides with these corporate interests, it would be easier to divide working people and limit their power in numbers because unions give workers a powerful voice in speaking up for themselves, their families, and their communities.
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, MA Attorney General Maura Healey, and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh will be participating speakers at the event. They will be appearing with the workers who deliver our important public services. We’ll be speaking out on the freedom to join together to build strong unions and fight for shared prosperity, affordable health care, quality schools, and healthy communities.
We hope to see you there!
In solidarity,
Executive Board
Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589
