Local 589’s candidate takes on incumbent Mayor of Brockton.

September 18, 2013

Bill CarpenterYesterday, Local 589’s endorsed candidate, Bill Carpenter, advanced past the preliminary to take on the incumbent Mayor in the final election for Mayor of Brockton.

Speaking from his election night party at George’s Cafe, Carpenter said the results show people want a change at City Hall. “A two-term incumbent mayor could not get 50 percent of the vote,” he said. “Today more people voted against Balzotti than for her.”

Standing outside the War Memorial in Ward 2, Jose Monteiro, 30, had already focused on the top finishers long before the results were in. “Carpenter and Balzotti stand out,” Monteiro said, when asked about the mayoral race. “Balzotti has done a lot to develop downtown, but Carpenter has a brought a lot of passion to the race.”
