Local 589 Stands Out at Boston Labor Day Breakfast

The Boston Carmen’s Union ATU Local 589 was front and center at the Boston Labor Day Breakfast on Monday with a crowd of over 800 at the Park Plaza Hotel.
Executive Board members attended the event and had the opportunity to talk with a number of candidates for the 2014 election. Local 589 banners supporting Steve Grossman for Governor, Warren Tolman for Attorney General, and Deb Goldberg for Treasurer were strategically placed throughout the hotel’s ballroom. The Democratic Primary is this Tuesday, September 9th, making the Labor Day Breakfast one of the largest public events for candidates before the election.
Local 589’s endorsed candidate for Governor, Steve Grossman attended the Central Mass Labor Day Breakfast in Worcester then arrived in Boston to work the crowd and gave a rousing speech on his vision for the Commonwealth. Treasurer candidate Deb Goldberg went table to table talking with union members from 100 different unions. Attorney General candidate Warren Tolman brought the crowd to its feet with a passionate speech describing what he would stand for as AG. All three statewide endorsed candidates made a point of seeking out Local 589’s table to pay respects.
U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey both spoke along with 6th District Congressman John Tierney, who has a Democratic Primary on September 9th against 3 challengers.Congressman Tierney has been endorsed by the Boston Carmen’s Union for his work on federal transportation funding and protecting our collective bargaining rights.
