Local 589 COPE Golf Tournament A Success
July 29, 2014
The annual Boston Carmen’s Union ATU Local 589 Committee on Political Education (COPE) Golf Tournament featured a beautiful summer day, a large crowd, good food, and fun for all involved reports Vice President Peggy Lapaglia.
Local 589 members, members from other unions on the T, and friends filled all the foursomes at what has become the Union’s major summer membership event. Joining the golfers were retired Local 589 President Jim Lydon and retired Vice President Frank Sullivan. Brothers Lydon and Sullivan started the COPE event in the mid-1990s.
Funds raised from the golf tournament go to support Local 589’s political and legislative efforts to improve conditions for MBTA workers. The Boston Carmen’s Union Executive Board would especially like to thank President and Business Manager Bobby Didrikson, the Executive Board and members of Local 600 for their generous support as a double Platinum sponsor ($10,000) of the Tournament. And a special thanks to all our sponsors and golfers who made the day a success.
