Important Hearing this Tuesday (5/16) at the State House
May 13, 2023
Brothers and Sisters,
There is a hearing on Tuesday (5/16) from 1-5 PM at the State House in room in A-2 on H.1669. If passed, this bill would impose stricter punishments for those convicted of assaulting public transit workers. The bill, put forth by State Rep. Joe McGonagle, Jr. of Everett, also includes coughing, spitting, or flinging bodily fluids under its definition of assault.
We will be there to testify in support of this necessary legislation. If you would like to testify, contact Local 589 Vice President Billy Berardino at (617) 921-9819. Retirees and members, who are not working, are encouraged to attend. For active members, please wear your uniform so the legislators know who you are. If you are not able to attend, please contact your legislators and ask them to co-sponsor and/or support H.1669.
In solidarity,
Executive Board
Boston Carmen’s Union Local 589
