Elizabeth Warren Visits Local 589 Repairmen at Cabot Shop
September 7, 2012
After a morning of greeting voters at Broadway Station, U.S. Senate Candidate Elizabeth Warren wanted to meet the workers who keep the MBTA running. President John Lee and the Executive Board granted Elizabeth’s request bringing her, and State Representative Nick Collins, over to the Cabot Repair shop.
Warren talked with local 589 members praising the work the repairmen and all Carmen’s Union members do to keep public transportation moving.”It’s workers, union members like you and your Union, that helped build this country and create a middle class,” Warren told the group.
Elizabeth Warren also made it clear that she understands what Scott Brown doesn’t – that our state, our economy, relies on public transportation and that funding transit service is essential for creating new jobs and supporting small businesses.
Local 589 President / Business Agent John Lee noted the big difference between Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown saying, “Elizabeth took the time to meet and talk with the frontline workers at the T. And she understands the importance of federal funding for public transit. Scott Brown voted for federal budgets that cut transit funding. Elizabeth Warren gets it, Scott Brown doesn’t.”
The Boston Carmen’s Union and the ATU have endorsed Elizabeth Warren for U.S. Senate because she will fight for public transit funding just as hard as she fought to protect consumers from big banks and Wall Street.
