Celebrating National Get On Board Day
April 25, 2022
As Carmen’s members, we are not only transit operators but also transit riders. We know more than anyone that public transportation is essential for our livelihoods, our communities, and the riders we serve.
National Get On Board Day was established in 2019 to create awareness and educate communities across the country on the importance and benefits of public transportation. While millions of Americans use public transit daily and Boston alone has thousands of transit workers, we hardly ever get the chance to show appreciation for one another or our transit system.
The MBTA, primarily comprised of Carmen’s Local 589 members, services an estimated 500,000 commuters and nearly 1.4 million trips each weekday. Thanks to a well-established and reliable public transportation system throughout the Greater Boston Area, our riders have substantial access to a safer, more affordable, and sustainable commute. Additionally, with every $1 invested in public transit generating roughly $4 in return, riding public transit gets us where we need to go and benefits our entire economy.
On National Get On Board Day, we want to take this opportunity to show appreciation for the MBTA, our riders, and our members. So, thank you for coming to work with care in your hearts and keeping Boston moving with a smile on your face. Happy National Get On Board Day!
