Brady Wins in 2nd Plymouth & Bristol District!
November 5, 2015
On Tuesday, voters in the 2nd Plymouth & Bristol district overwhelmingly elected Democratic State Representative Mike Brady to the Massachusetts State Senate in the special election to replace the late Senator Tom Kennedy. Mike was one of Local 589’s endorsed candidates.
“Throughout our campaign, I have been encouraged by the spirit and character of 2nd Plymouth & Bristol district voters. I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to continue the work of my friend and mentor Senator Tom Kennedy,” said Senator-elect Mike Brady. “From the start this campaign has been about the issues that matter to working families and the grassroots support of my candidacy is representative of that focus on creating opportunities for all South Shore families.”
Apart from being a former Teamsters truck driver and long supporter of unions, Mike was the only representative out of 154 to oppose the three-year repeal of the Taxpayer Protection Act (or Pacheco Law). Asked shortly after the vote why he did it, Mike said in an interview that he was “against taking rights away from workers” and a “big supporter of collective bargaining rights.” He said a union enabled him to purchase a home, something his parents were never able to do. Brady also commented on the scam that Baker is pushing in saying, “once you give something away you never get it back.”
