ATU Int’l Pres. Larry Hanley’s Statement on Veterans Day

November 11, 2013

veterans_day_2007_poster1aThis Veterans Day, on behalf of the 192,000 members of the Amalgamated Transit Union, we honor American veterans for their extraordinary service and contributions to our way of life.

Few have given more to our nation than the men and women who have served in our armed forces in peace and in war.

We particularly thank our many ATU members who have served in our country’s armed forces.  Their service, and the service of all veterans have made it possible for union members to collectively bargain for a better life.

As we celebrate and thank our veterans for their loyal service and sacrifices to protect our freedoms, it’s ironic that our politicians have cut their benefits and many remain jobless while companies continue to ship jobs overseas.

Our veterans embody exceptional character and integrity that should be valued in our society. It’s time for our government to defend and stand up for our veterans as they selflessly did for our countries.

In solidarity,

Larry Hanley, International President
Amalgamated Transit Union
