9/26/22 – Latest Retirement Negotiations Update

September 26, 2022

Brothers and Sisters,

As many are aware, negotiations with MBTA management on retirement issues are ongoing and 589 has filed a recent lawsuit to help ensure those talks continue and that the prior arbitrators recommendations are not applied and are negotiated.

As recently as Friday, it was agreed to continue those talks and the parties have determined there will be no immediate changes implemented at this time as talks continue.

In other words, the pension is status quo as if the arbitration award hadn’t happened. This is for a period of time as we negotiate a new agreement with the MBTA.

In Solidarity,

Jim Evers, President
Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589
