2012 Year In Review
January 2, 2013
Happy New Year! As this year comes to a close the Executive Board of the Boston Carmen’s Union feels nothing but pride and joy for how we as a union came together during 2012.
Together we mobilized in an unprecedented campaign to re-elect President Barack Obama and elect pro-union, pro-worker candidates, like Sen. Elizabeth Warren. We participated in the first ‘Rockin’ the Transit World’ international webcast and brought the ballot to bus riders through the first ever ‘National Transit Voter Week.’
In times of distress we provided financial and emotional support to our union brothers and sisters affected by tragedy. We stood with Walmart workers against union-busting tactics and helped make Christmas a little brighter for needy children.
Up at the state house, we successfully fought attacks on our collective bargaining rights. We rallied against cuts and layoffs while pushing for greater investment in mass transit. All the while, ridership increased showing the urgent need for increased investment in public transit in Massachusetts.
We celebrated our 100th Anniversary, helped more of our members send their children to college with our annual scholarship program, and were recognized for acts of heroism, professionalism, c
We mounted a campaign against increased attacks on bus drivers and continue to fight hard for better wages, benefits and improved conditions for our members. These are just a few of the highlights of the past year.
Your dedication and professionalism is what keeps Boston moving and our local great. We care and look out for one another – that is what makes us strong. It propelled us through this year and will continue to help us overcome the challenges that lie ahead in 2013.
As long as we are one we will never be defeated.
In solidarity,
Executive Board
Boston Carmen’s Union, ATU Local 589
