⚠️ Tomorrow’s Hearing on S.2531 Rescheduled to Next Thursday (11/13) at 11 AM

November 4, 2025

Dear Members and Retirees,

We’ve just received word that the Massachusetts Senate hearing on S.2531—An Act Relative to Assault and Battery Upon a Transit Worker—has been rescheduled to next Thursday (11/13) at 11:00 AM in the Senate chambers within the Massachusetts State House.

This important legislation strengthens protections for public transit workers by making it a criminal offense to commit assault and battery using bodily substances (such as saliva, blood, or urine) against them. It ensures stronger legal consequences for those who target transit professionals with such degrading acts.

We’re still calling on all members and retirees to show up in support—whether in uniform, out of uniform, or wearing union swag. If you need something to wear, swing by the union hall between 9:00 and 10:00 AM next Thursday (11/13) to grab gear before we walk together to the State House.

If you have any questions, please contact Local 589 Vice President Bill Berardino at

Let’s stand together and make our voices heard.

In solidarity,

Executive Board
Boston Carmen’s Union, Local 589
